My gratitude is deeply felt toward the museum for providing a space for me within their walls and to the collectors who have found value enough in my work to do...

New Mexico Museum of Art – NOW!

Honored to have had my artwork juried and featured in The New Mexico Museum of Art’s first online exhibition. In addition, my artwork was featured the New Mexico Magazine editorial designating the exhibition as one of “5 Thing To Do”. From New Mexico Magazine:On a piece that stood out: “The cowboy in the face mask [by landscape painter S.M Chavez]. I thought that was really interesting because it felt like a classic, old Western painting with this contemporary addition. It could almost be jarring, but also really intriguing.” — New Mexico Museum of Art Assistant Curator and exhibition curator, Jana Gottshalk.

Sold Out Opening at Santa Fe’s Acosta-Strong Fine Art

With another painting moving from the on-hold position to the sold position, this weekends opening is considered sold out. I could not be more happy or humbled. Current inventory of my work at Acosta-Strong is obviously low right now, but there are plenty of other artists who’s work you need to get a hold of. Summer is just around the corner and things are about to move pretty fast. Thank you to all who attended and an extra special thank you to collectors. Time to get to work.

Santa Fe’s Oldest House Poster Released

Here is a fun little article about a poster I recently designed for Santa Fe’s De Vargas Street House. Sean Michael Chavez often finds himself with a foot in two worlds. From his work as a fine art painter and as a graphic designer, he’s finding an appreciative audience everywhere he steps. At the Oldest House Indian Shop, Chavez’s Oldest House poster is a new favorite. The vintage-style image reflecting the traditional travel posters of the 1930s and ’40s was created by Chavez.. In The Buff

Last night I dreamed I was a mostly naked Indian weraring nothing but a pair of white Adidas shoes. My hair was long and straight as a board. It tickled my butt cheeks as I walked around like everything was normal. Today, I am wearing those same white tennis shoes in honor of the naked Indian that walks inside me.
